Behind the Scenes: Building a More Sustainable Festival

This Earth Day (22nd April) we’re shining a light on the practical steps we’re taking to become more sustainable. Because it’s not just about what’s on stage, it’s about everything happening behind the scenes to protect the environment that makes it all possible.

Across the site, the focus is simple: cut waste, reuse more, and make better choices. Single-use cups, plates, and cutlery are being reduced wherever possible, with reusable tableware stepping in. Even backstage, crew catering is served on real crockery with metal cutlery – no disposables in sight.

In busy bars, durable polycarbonate glassware keeps things flowing while cutting down on breakages and waste. And when single-use can’t be avoided, we choose recyclable materials that are easy to process and less likely to end up in general waste.

This year, you’ll see clearer signage and recycling points across the site, backed by behind-the-scenes sorting to make sure everything goes where it should. We’re also working closely with suppliers to standardise packaging – making recycling simpler and more effective for everyone.

And it doesn’t stop there. Food waste is being separated and diverted where possible, while sustainability is playing a bigger role in the partners and suppliers we choose and how we work together.

By tracking waste year-on-year and setting clear targets, we’re focused on continuous improvement. It’s not about overnight transformation but steady, meaningful progress towards a more sustainable Festival.

We can’t wait to welcome you in July!
