British sculptor John O’Connor started out ‘on the tools’ as a brick layer. In his late 20’s John completely reinvented himself and embarked on his dream job of becoming a sculptor. He received his formal training with what was formerly known as The Sculpture Academy at London Bridge.
John has been practicing as a professional sculptor for over 25years. His work has become increasingly popular and much sought after. His signature style is clear to see with the exaggerated form and sincere study of the lone figure.
“ OUR EMOTIONAL STATE OF BEING IS REFLECTED IN THE EXPRESSION OF THE PHYSICAL FORM “
An exaggeration of the figure is a recurring theme in John’s work. Blending the physical with the emotional he explores the fabric of his own internal worlds. He approaches his work with an honest and open heart where he can share what he believes to be, ‘states of mind that are inherent in us all’. John demonstrates these universal states of mind and emotion with a visual dialogue we can all relate to, taking us on a journey to a place where familiarity and shared emotional expressions unite us. His works manage to reveal an intimate examination of the ‘self’. His works are often personal, emotional, and poetic.
