Directed by wise-cracking MD Pete Long, the Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Orchestra’s exciting brew of virtuoso ensemble playing with killer solo contributions from across all sections of the band has been delighting jazz fans across the board, from newcomers to regulars. Joining Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Orchestra as a very special guest is critically acclaimed songwriter, composer and recording artist Laura Mvula.
We’re delighted to have Laura accompanying the orchestra for a few numbers. With both lyrical and musical composition at her disposal, Laura has performed with orchestras around the world and has composed and arranged for orchestral and choral groups notably creating works for the BBC Proms and composing music including for RSC’s 2017 production of Anthony and Cleopatra and 2023 Netflix series Everything Now.
Laura’s albums have picked up two Ivor Novello Awards for Best Album, two MOBOs and BRITs nods with all three of her albums being nominated for the Mercury Prize – a rare feat in the award’s history.
Drawing from her lived experiences and observations of life, Laura continues to offer an aural landscape that transports listeners to a world of her creation. A magnificent talent, there is no telling where she will take us next.
