Sentinel

Sentinel is a large scale, immersive artwork that visitors are able to walk through like an archway to experience its impressive form and changing profiles. Standing under the artwork in the natural archway frames the visitor providing a perfect photo opportunity.

Its sweeping curves are inspired by the protective wing of a canary.

Sentinel’s wings are highlighted with a sequence of blended, light that flows directly through the artwork. Intelligent LEDs video bars are dynamically programmed with high resolution lighting effects.

The sculpture appears to be in a state of transition, its free flow of curves is set within a functional and orderly working of lines. Its elegant form provides a large dynamic sculpture during the day.

As rising temperatures and habitat loss degrade the natural world, bird species everywhere play the role of mine canaries for the whole planet. Trends in the size of their populations inform us of the extent and patterns of environmental change, providing a kind of early warning system. Like sentinels, they are giving us advanced warning of danger. The question is, will we listen?
